Why Take a Hanoi Countryside Jeep Tour?
Hanoi is more than its Old Quarter, lakes and historic monuments. Just beyond the urban center lies the fertile landscape of the Red River Delta, where rice farming, traditional villages, markets and agricultural life continue alongside Hanoi’s rapid development.
Traveling by open-air Jeep allows you to see the countryside from a completely different perspective. Instead of staying on major roads, the route follows smaller countryside roads, back roads and rural lanes, giving you a closer look at farms, rice fields, villages and everyday life outside the city.
Part 1: Leave Hanoi & Cross the Red River
Your Hanoi Countryside Jeep Tour begins with hotel pickup around Hanoi’s Old Quarter. After leaving the busy streets of central Hanoi, the Jeep heads toward the outskirts, gradually replacing the urban landscape with quieter roads and open countryside.
The journey crosses the river and continues toward the rural areas surrounding Hanoi. Along the way, you can enjoy views of the Red River, countryside landscapes and the changing scenery as the city gives way to farms and traditional villages.
Part 2: Rice Fields, Farms & Rural Villages
Continue deeper into the Red River Delta countryside, where you will see large green rice paddies, farmers working in the fields, livestock and seasonal agricultural activities. The Jeep travels along smaller roads through rural villages, offering an opportunity to observe a slower and more traditional rhythm of life.
This is one of the highlights of the tour for travelers who want to see the countryside around Hanoi without traveling far from the capital. You can see how agriculture remains an important part of everyday life while also observing the impact of Hanoi’s urbanization and industrial development on the surrounding countryside.
Part 3: Rural Market & Co Loa Ancient Citadel
After exploring the rice fields and villages, the Jeep continues to a rural market, where you can observe how people shop, trade and interact in their daily lives. The market adds another dimension to the countryside experience, moving beyond scenery and allowing you to see everyday activities in the Red River Delta.
The tour then takes a historical turn with a visit to Co Loa Ancient Citadel, an important archaeological and historical site dating back to the 3rd century BC. Here, your guide introduces the history, culture and mythology connected with King An Duong Vuong, the founder of the ancient kingdom of Au Lac. You will also explore Co Loa Village, where traditional Vietnamese village life can still be seen.
Part 4: Scenic Countryside Roads & Return to Hanoi
For the final part of the journey, the Jeep takes a different route back toward Hanoi, traveling along countryside roads near the Red River. The return journey continues through beautiful rural landscapes and rice fields, giving you more opportunities to enjoy the scenery and photograph the countryside.
For the morning option, lunch is served before returning to your hotel. After lunch, the Jeep team drives you back to Hanoi’s Old Quarter, completing your half-day journey through the Red River Delta countryside.
