Hanoi Jeep Tour: City & Red River Countryside, Hidden Backstreets & Train Street
Discover Hanoi in a different way on a 4.5-hour Jeep tour combining the city and Red River countryside. Travel through Hanoi’s famous landmarks, hidden backstreets, narrow alleys and historic streets, then escape the busy city to explore Banana Island, rural villages, farms and the peaceful countryside around West Lake.
Ride in an open-air Vietnam Army Jeep with an English-speaking guide and professional driver. Along the way, see Hanoi’s historical landmarks, experience the contrast between the modern city and countryside, enjoy fresh tropical fruit and green tea, and finish at Train Street with an Egg Coffee.
Part 1 – Hanoi Opera House & Hidden Backstreets
Your tour begins with pickup from your hotel in Hanoi Old Quarter. Meet your guide and driver before starting the Jeep journey.
First, visit the Hanoi Opera House, one of Vietnam’s most important historical and architectural landmarks.
From the Opera House, the Jeep takes you away from the main tourist route and into Hanoi’s hidden backstreets and narrow alleyways.
Drive through small streets, local homes, schools, markets and cafés. See different sides of Hanoi and experience the daily life of the city away from the main attractions.
Part 2 – Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Thanh Nien Street & Red River Countryside
Continue to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, one of the most important historical sites in Hanoi.
From there, drive along Thanh Nien Street, the beautiful road between West Lake and Truc Bach Lake.
The route then continues to Banana Island, a peaceful area only a few kilometers from central Hanoi but with a completely different atmosphere.
Explore farms and rural homes, meet people in the area, learn about their way of life, enjoy organic tropical fruits and try traditional green tea.
Continue through the countryside around West Lake and Truc Bach Lake to experience the contrast between Hanoi’s busy city center and its quieter rural areas.
Part 3 – Tran Quoc Pagoda, Hoang Hoa Tham Street & Hidden Hanoi
Continue to Tran Quoc Pagoda, the oldest pagoda in Hanoi with more than 1,500 years of history.
After visiting the pagoda, drive along Hoang Hoa Tham Street, known for its beautiful bonsai gardens, green trees and colorful flowers.
The Jeep then continues through more hidden backstreets and small alleys of Hanoi.
Along the way, see the B-52 American aircraft historical site and continue through both older neighborhoods and the newer parts of Hanoi with modern high-rise buildings.
This part of the journey shows the contrast between Hanoi’s history, traditional neighborhoods and rapidly developing city.
Part 4 – Thang Long Citadel, French Quarter & Train Street
Continue by Jeep around the Thang Long Imperial Citadel and through the French Quarter, where you can see the city’s beautiful French-style architecture and historic streets.
The final stop is Train Street, one of Hanoi’s most iconic places.
Take a walk around the railway area, enjoy the atmosphere and take photos. Stop at a café beside the railway and enjoy a traditional Vietnamese Egg Coffee.
When the train schedule allows, watch the train pass through the narrow railway section.
After the Train Street experience, return to your Jeep and finish the tour with drop-off at your hotel in Hanoi Old Quarter.
